State of Ohio, Shelby County, ss:
Personally appeared before me, Saml M. Cowan(?), Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, within 
and for the County aforesaid, Gabriel Daniel, and made oath that it was bona fide his intention to 
become a citizen of the United States; and to renounce forever, all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign 
Prince, Potentate, State or Sovereignty whatever, and particularly to Maxemillian 2nd, Prince of Bavaria in Germany.  

In testimony w_____ I, Saml M. Cowan, have thereunto set my hand and Seal of Office, At Sidney, Ohio, 
this day of April, A.D., 1856.
