The friends of John SPEAR will be sorry to learn of his sudden death, which
took place near Geneva, Ind., last Saturday night, February 24.
Mr. SPEAR was well and favorably known at Lafayette for his Christian
character, honor and integrity. It will be remembered that he engineered the
drilling of an oil well near Lafayette several years ago, on the Thayer
farm, where he formed a friendship with a great many people which will not
be soon forgotten.
