OLD PIONEER GONE GEORGE WASHINGTON POPE One of the Oldest Residents of the County Passes to His Reward Geo. Washington POPE was born in Montgomery Co., Ohio May 7, 1834. He moved to Shelby Co. with his parents in 1845 and located on what is known as the POPE farm one mile east of Dawson, and lived there until the year 1880. When he moved to the TRYON farm three miles east of Dawson, where he lived until Dec. 18, 1905. When he came to make his home with his son E.C. POPE and wife. He was married to Mary HUGHES Oct. 27, 18599, who departed this life Aug. 11, 1875. Seven children were born to this union. Namely, Joseph, Elmer, William, Charles C., Edward C., Cora A., Geo. A. and Lula POPE. Joseph, Elmer and Charles have preceded him to the grave. He was again married to Mary C. BROWN Jan. 17, 1880. Who departed this life Aug. 18, 1905. He was a kind father and loved his children, a good neighbor and a faithful friend, and did not have an enemy in the world. He many times expressed his willingness to depart this life and go to that home that God had prepared for him. He leaves to mourn his loss four children, one sister Mrs. Elizabeth HOOBLER aged 76 years who lives at White Hall Montana and a host of relatives and friends. The deceased departed this life Nov. 12, 1906 aged 72 years 6 months and 5 days. Funeral services Wednesday afternoon at the Houston Christian Church conducted by Rev. G.B. CAIN assisted by Rev. PLACK of the U.B. Church and Rev. MOORE of the Presbyterian church.
