McCorkle khmccorkle@cox.net December 2002 *********************************************************************** Levi McCorkle, Retired Farmer, Succumbs at 86 Levi Calvin McCorkle, 86, of Oran, retired Shelby County farmer, died at the home of his son, Cecil, at Oran at 7:30 a.m. today. He had been ill for several months. Born in Cynthian township Oct 27, 1879, he was a son of Cyrus and Mary Yonker McCorkle. He was married Aug. 3, 1902, to Nannie Frances Wurtz, who died in 1950. Survivors besides the son at whose home he died are a daughter, Mrs. Helen Isabelle Penrod of Logansville, seven grandchildren, and two brothers, Dr. Charles McCorkle of R.R. 6, Sidney, and Walker McCorkle of Riverside, Calif. A son, a sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Mr. McCorkle was a member of Trinity Church of the Brethren. Rev. Gary Hodges will conduct services at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oran Christian Church Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, northwest of Oran. Friends may call at the Gromes and Sons Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon and evening and until noon Wednesday when the body will be taken to the church. Friends may call at the church until the hour for services.
