McCorkle Email: khmccorkle@cox.net *********************************************************************** SIDNEY DAILY NEWS June 7, 1912 AGED RESIDENT DEAD Charles Stuerwald, aged 91 years, __ months and 2 days, died Monday, June 3, at 5:30 a. m. at the home of his son, Henry Stuerwald at Ft. Loramie. The deceased was born in Germany. He had resided at Ft. Loramie with his son for the past __ years. The funeral services were held at the St. Michael Church ___ that place Wednesday morning. LEATHERWOOD Mrs. Anetta Caven, of Fletcher, is visiting with her son, William Caven and family this week. Mary Ceyler and Mary Spigelmoyer attended the commencement at Lena Saturday evening. Miss Elsie Comer spent Saturday night and Sunday with Carl Carter and family, of Lena. Wm. and James Caven are having their buildings painted this week. Miss Willie and Mrs. Sam Atkinson, of Bellefontaine, took dinner with J. W. Brown and wife Friday. Mrs. Thomas Ceyler and daughter Mary, Miss Myrtie Griffis and W. B. __oon and daughter Elsie were shopping in Piqua Friday. W. P. White spent Wednesday and Thursday in Lima visiting with his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Snook and family. Sunday visitors were: Mrs. Lo__na Moore and daughter Clara with H. Piatt and family; J. C. Rolfe and wife called on Ernest Rolfe and family, of Plattsville; J. S. Caven and family with Carl Wilgus and family, of near Conover; Mary Ceyler, Mary Spigelmoyer and Elsie ____ with Miss Blanche Riley; Veto __akins and wife, of West Liberty with her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Wm. __mer; Charley Putman, of Piqua, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Putman; H. E. Worthington and family with Wilbur Worthington and wife in afternoon; A. F. Moon called on Walter Ceyler in afternoon; Mary Piatt, of Ballou, with Earl Worthington and family; Otto Wolfe and family with friends in Casstown; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Coddington in Fletcher in the afternoon; Mr. and Mrs. S. White, of Conover, with W. P. White and family in the afternoon; Boyd Mathers and Leota Slusser were evening callers; . . . U. R. McCorkle aided us in the building of a grade over the slough north of his home the first of the week. D. Younker and wife and N. Cromas and wife, are attending the conference of the Church of the Brethren in Pennsylvania this week. It is curious to note how ill some young, able bodied men can become when called upon to do service levied upon them by the state laws. We are disposed to believe that if the hook worm was eradicated they would be able to do manual labor as well as any body. For shame that one who claims to be a citizen of this free country should impose his presence where he is not willing to aid in making his home community a pleasant place to live in and enjoy. Mr. Huenke and chauffeur, of New Bremen, passed through our street Tuesday looking after the interests of the White Mountain Creamery. H. A. Miller is now with Sam Love in Sidney performing duties as an architect. C. D. McCullough went to Anna Monday on business. Mrs. Odie McCullough and Mrs. Mattie Grove were at Sidney Tuesday. Mrs. Mary Etzwiler is keeping house for Mrs. D. Younker during their sojourn in the Keystone state. L. C. Woods and wife and granddaughter, Miss Edith Cook, visited at H. D. Apple's in Miami county Sunday. Benj. Roman knocked the persimmon and got the Big Run school for next winter. We wish him success. We understand that R. Gigandet was hired at Cuba at the same time. We also offer him our best wishes. R. Horning accompanied Winemiller's boys on a fishing excursion at the little pond Tuesday. Raymond says he caught fourteen fish that weighed a pound. (not each.)
