McLean Township is located on the west side of Shelby county.  It is bounded on the north by Auglaize county & Van Buren township, on the east by Van Buren & Turtle Creek townships, on the south of Cynthian township and on the west by Auglaize county.
McLean Township is watered by Loramie Creek.  Loramie Reservoir is located largely in this township.  The reservoir is formed by the damming of Loramie Creek and constitutes one of the water supplies of the Miami and Erie Canal.  The Miami and Erie Canal also traverses McLean township from the north to the south and affords shipping facilities in the absence of railroads.
