Clinton Township was originally organized as part of Miami county.  It is bounded on the north by Franklin township, on the east by Salem, Perry, and Orange townships, on the south by Orange & Washington townships, and on the west by Washington & Turtle Creek townships.
Clinton Township is crossed north and south by the Dayton & Michigan Railroad, east and west by the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, & Indianapolis (old Bellefontaine & Indiana) Railroad.  The Great Miami River enters the township at the northeast corner and courses south by west a distance of nearly three miles.
Sidney was selected as a town site in September 1819 and was surveyed in 1820.
